Mobile and Temporary Changing Stations

What about temporary events such as state fairs, farmer's markets, festivals, and marathons?

Typically at these events, portable toilets such as port-a-pottys or restroom trailers will be provided to the public. Accessible family restrooms equipped with universal changing tables can also be provided to make the entire event more inclusive! On this page you will find several solutions for temporary events.

Mometum Refresh

Momentum Refresh

The Momentum Refresh is a mobile family restroom containing many accessible features. This vehicle can be rented for your next community or private event, or purchased for ongoing use in your community or city!

Features of the Refresh vehicle:

  • A powered, height-adjustable adult-size (universal) changing table with a safety side rail

  • Two ways to enter and exit the vehicle, depending on your mobility; a wheelchair lift, and stairs.

  • A powered personal lift to assist with transfers of individuals unable to transfer themselves from their wheelchair

  • A powered, height-adjustable sink

  • A toilet with adjustable, swing away grab bars

  • A vehicle attendant who will make sure you enter and exit safely, be there to answer any questions, and keep the vehicle in tip top condition for the best user experience

Grant Funding Available

In 2024, many Ohio county boards of Developmental Disabilities secured grant funding which could fund the rental of a Momentum Refresh for your event. Contact your County board of DD to ask if funding is available.

Trailers

Montando Trailers

Montando Trailers has produced several family restroom trailers, which provide a place for families with young children, people with disabilities, and aging individuals to enter with ease and use the restroom with dignity.

These trailers are a great solution for towns, parks districts, and/or cities to purchase for public use when there are no suitable options to install a permanent adult changing station in a nearby building. These standalone family restrooms are outfitted with universally-accessible equipment.

They can be parked in a public location for public use, and moved to downtown areas or parks for special events.

Montando Trailers are custom-built for each customer.

Features can include:

  • A powered, height-adjustable universal changing table

  • A personal lift

  • A wheelchair accessible sink

  • A toilet with grab bars

  • Sensory items

Trailers are produced in New York and can be shipped anywhere in the United States.

Temporary Changing Tents

Tents

An economical option to providing a private changing space is a large tent that can be closed for privacy, containing a powered, height-adjustable changing table, sanitizing wipes, and a trash can. Although this is not a long-term solution, a tent can provide a temporary changing space while you work toward raising funds for the installation of a permanent changing table inside a restroom on the event grounds, or a personal care vehicle like those listed above. A changing tent is NOT recommended when there is windy or inclement weather. Be sure your tent is well-anchored to avoid the tent blowing open or blowing away. Be sure to anchor the tent very well with heavy duty sand bags or cinder blocks.

Changing Table Lending/Rental Program

Changing Table Lending program

Some disability organizations are making their community more accessible by purchasing a freestanding universal changing table and offering it to locations in their community to borrow or rent for community events. They work with the event planners to determine the best placement for the changing table, such as inside of a private restroom, and provide ample signage to let the public know where to find the changing table, should they require it. It is also helpful to announce that the changing table will be available on advertisements for the event, such as flyers, social media posts, and on the website (if there is one), so that people know in advance that this important piece of equipment will be available at the event.

  • Be sure to post detailed use instructions, so that people can learn how to properly use the changing table, as well as posting it's weight limit.

  • The best changing tables we have found for this purpose are ones that have wheels. You will need a pickup truck or trailer to transport the table.

  • Two good portable changing table options are the Smirthwaite East Changer, because of it's long-lasting battery it does not need to be plugged in during events, and the EverWay4All 2-Section Treatment Table, which folds, shortening its overall length and making transport easier.
